What I Pack: A Rooted & Real Camping Medicine Kit

Sharing is caring!

There’s something about heading into the woods that makes me want to simplify everything—our meals, our routines, even the way we approach medicine and care for our bodies.

But simple doesn’t mean unprepared.

When I pack for camping season here in Minnesota, I bring a small, thoughtfully curated mix of medicine, herbal support, and everyday remedies that help us feel ready for whatever the trip brings. From traditional medicine to plant-based options, each item has a purpose—supporting our bodies in a way that feels both practical and aligned with how we live.

Because when you’re out in nature, having the right remedy on hand—whether conventional or herbal—can make all the difference in staying comfortable, present, and able to fully enjoy the experience.

Why I Pack Both Conventional & Herbal Medicine

I don’t believe it has to be one or the other.

There’s a time and place for conventional medicine—especially when you need quick, reliable relief. But I also lean heavily on herbal remedies that support the body more gently and holistically.

When you’re camping, especially with kids, having both herbal and traditional medicine on hand means:

  • You can respond quickly to symptoms
  • You have natural remedy options for minor issues
  • You’re not relying on a last-minute store run miles from your campsite

It’s peace of mind… without overpacking.

My Go-To Herbal Remedies for the Whole Family

These are staple herbal remedies in my camping medicine kit year after year. They’re versatile, compact, and support multiple needs.

Oregano (Tincture, Oil & Capsules)

Oil of Oregano by Designs for Health

Oregano is one of my most-used herbal remedies—and for good reason.

I pack it in three forms because each serves a different purpose:

  • Tincture: Easy to take, great herbal immune remedy at the first sign of illness
  • Oil: More potent, used sparingly as a strong natural remedy
  • Capsules: Convenient for travel and consistent herbal support

Why I bring it:
Camping means exposure—to weather shifts, shared spaces, and all the germs that come with adventure. Oregano is my go-to herbal remedy and a staple in my natural medicine approach when something feels “off.”

Migra-T (Tension Ease) aka. Herbal Alternative to Tylenol

Headaches don’t wait for a “good time”—and when you’re camping, they can hit even harder between sun exposure, disrupted sleep, dehydration, and long days outside.

Migra-T is one of the few things I bring that feels like a bridge between herbal support and more traditional medicine.

Why I bring it:

  • Helps ease tension and migraine discomfort without jumping straight to stronger medication
  • Supports sensitivity to light and sound
  • A balanced remedy that works with the body, not just against symptoms

How it works:
This herbal-based formula combines ingredients that support the body in multiple ways:

  • Feverfew + white willow bark help ease head tension
  • Magnesium supports nervous system function
  • Ginger and CoQ10 help support circulation and reduce inflammation

It’s not just a quick fix—it’s a supportive remedy that helps prevent things from escalating.

Black Seed Oil

This is one of those quiet herbal remedies that does a lot behind the scenes.

Black seed oil is a powerful addition to any natural medicine routine, known for supporting immune health and inflammatory response. It is also said to be able to cure everything except for death.

Why I bring it:

  • Daily herbal immune support
  • Helps the body stay balanced during travel
  • An easy, consistent natural remedy to keep on hand

Stinging Nettle Tincture

Stinting nettle herbal tincture

If you’ve camped in Minnesota, you know—nature is beautiful, but it comes with allergens.

Stinging nettle is one of my favorite herbal remedies for seasonal support.

Why I bring it:

  • Helps with allergy-like symptoms
  • Supports overall mineral intake
  • A gentle herbal remedy that can be used regularly

Don’t Skip the Basic Medicine Essentials

While I love my herbal remedies, I always include a few conventional medicine basics:

  • Pain reliever – Genexa (for kids and adults)
  • Allergy medication – Genexa
  • Bandages + basic first aid
  • Electrolyte packets – Recommend Just.Ingredients (Code: mnraye for 10% off)

Because sometimes, simple and familiar medicine is exactly what you need.

How I Keep It Organized

Everything goes into a small, grab-and-go pouch:

  • Tinctures in an essential oil travel bag.
  • Clearly labeled bottles
  • Kept in a consistent spot so I’m not digging when I need it

It’s not fancy—but it works.

Rooted & Real

At the end of the day, this kit isn’t about perfection.

It’s about feeling prepared enough to fully enjoy where we are—whether that’s sitting by the fire, hiking a quiet trail, or watching the kids explore without a schedule.

A little preparation goes a long way in helping us stay present.

And that’s what this season is all about.

I’m not packing for perfection—I’m packing for peace of mind. For slow mornings at the campsite, long afternoons outside, and evenings around the fire without worry. Just simple, intentional living… the kind that stays rooted and real.

keep it rooted and real Raye signature.
